The short version: EdTech Reality only collects the information you choose to give — your email if you subscribe, and your details if you contact us. We don't sell data, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
1. Who we are
EdTech Reality (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is a publication sharing real-world IT insights for schools and multi-academy trusts. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@edtechreality.co.uk. (Replace with your real contact details and, if applicable, your registered business name and address.)
2. What we collect
- Newsletter sign-ups: the email address you submit.
- Contact form: your name, email address, the optional organisation you provide, the topic you select, and your message.
- Basic technical data: if analytics are enabled, anonymised information such as pages visited, approximate region, browser and device type. This is used to understand what content is useful — not to identify you personally.
We do not knowingly collect data from children. This site is intended for IT and leadership professionals.
3. Why we use it (lawful basis)
- To send the newsletter — on the basis of your consent, which you give when you subscribe.
- To reply to your enquiry — on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- To improve the site — on the basis of legitimate interest, using aggregated, non-identifying analytics.
4. Third-party services
To run the site we rely on a small number of reputable providers, which may process your data on our behalf:
- Form handling (e.g. Formspree) — to receive and forward newsletter and contact-form submissions.
- Email / newsletter delivery (e.g. Mailchimp, Buttondown or similar) — to store subscriber emails and send messages.
- Hosting and, optionally, analytics — to serve the site and measure aggregate usage.
Each provider has its own privacy policy. Update this list to reflect the exact tools you use before publishing.
5. Cookies
This site uses minimal cookies. Any strictly necessary cookies keep the site working; if analytics or embedded content are added later, non-essential cookies will only be set with your consent. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.
6. How long we keep it
Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up, then deleted.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased (“right to be forgotten”);
- withdraw consent — every newsletter includes a one-click unsubscribe link;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these, email hello@edtechreality.co.uk and we'll action it promptly.
8. Data security
We use providers that apply industry-standard security, and we limit access to your data to what's necessary to run the site. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The “last updated” date above will always reflect the current version.
This template is provided as a practical starting point, not legal advice. Review it against your actual tools and circumstances — and seek professional advice if you're unsure — before publishing.
